Review: Maybelline City Mini Palette

Hey loves! so I finally received my Influenster box that I mentioned that I was waiting on my last post and I am excited to be reviewing it today and sharing my thoughts on it. If this is your first time reading one of my reviews, you can visit here to find out what Influenster is from a previous post and how you can receive free product to review as well. Influenster email me about a month ago informing me that I was in the Maybelline City Mini voxbox. After I read the email I looked online to do my research and find out a little bit more about the mini palettes. At the time, I did not know which one I would be receiving but I was excited because there were eight options (I only received one).

Okay so lets get to the good part. The palette that I received was the Maybelline City Mini Girls Night Glimmer palette. As described by Maybelline, this palette is inspired to light up the night with shimmering silver's and jewel tone hues. There are six eyeshadows in the palette and they are so soft. I actually ended up pressing down on the blue shimmery shade a little too hard and it ended up separating some on me so I did the alcohol trick overnight and it came back together as a solid shadow. As you can see by my swatches, all of the shades have a shiver/glitter look to them except for one which was just a matte nude shade. I was afraid that all the shades were going to be similar when I first saw the palette but to my surprise they were not.

Last sunday, I did a snapchat takeover for a makeup page on instagram and decided that I would utilize the time to create a look with this palette. Speaking of snap, I just created a snap for my beauty page/blog and will be doing snap tutorials if you would like to add me, @GlamByKelsie. Back to the review, I recently did the Rihanna Wild Thoughts video inspired look so I knew I didn't want to re-create a look that resembled that with the blue  shimmer eyeshadow from the city mini palette so I decided to go with a smoky eye using my Morphe 35C palette and then followed that with the dark black shimmer shade from the city mini palette and added the blue to my inner corner for a pop of color. I loved how the look came out and how the colors applied on top of my other eyeshadows. I did end up going to dinner afterwords and the eyeshadow lasted me until I took off my makeup later on that night.

So is it a yay or nay?

I would say this palette is a yay. It retails on the Maybelline website and Ulta for $9.99. I like the concept of being able to create a unique makeup look using the different mini palettes. I do however feel that for the amount of product you get, the price could be a little less. I couldn't justify buying all eight of them and spending nearly $80 when I could take that same amount and  by a high-end palette or two but that's just me. Other than that though I do find the shadows to have a good color pay off but I wouldn't use them alone without a primer/base underneath. The look was easy to create and very beginner friendly. Check out my instagram if you would like to see pictures of how everything turned out.

I can see these being perfect for gifts and stocking stuffers. Have you tried out one of the city mini palettes yet and if so which one did you use? If not, take a look here and tell me which one you would like if you had to choose one.

Disclaimer: I did receive this palette for free from Influenster in exchange for my honest review which I stand behind 100%.

  1. This palette looks really nice! I wouldn't usually gravitate to a collection of colors like this, but they're really pretty.

  2. I've been obsessing over shimmery color. Sounds like my next buy.
